Unit 2
This unit was about chemistry in biology and the largest 4 macro molecules. The main theme in this unit was how molecules link together. Some essential understanding from this unit include being able to see the relationship between the structure and function for carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. Also, the knowledge of some basic chemistry to help you with biology is an essential to understanding this unit. From the labs we completed, I learned that monosaccharides are the sweetest tasting sugar. I also found that when making cheese, you should have the milk in a hot place at an acidic state, using the enzyme chymosin the curdle it.My strengths in this unit was mainly the 4 different macro molecules: carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids. I know all of their functions, what they were used for, and what they looked like. I didn't really know a lot of the vocabulary and the chemistry in biology was a little confusing. The different types of bonds and water properties got me a bit mixed up. My whole group works really well together during labs even though I find it a little hard to trust other people to do their jobs.
After these experiences, I've learned to have some faith in people and give them more credibility. From doing a cheese lab in class, I also learned that I might never want to eat cheese again. I think I am a better student than I was yesterday because I know just a little bit more.
I would want to learn more about the 4 macro molecules. I'm still not quite sure about the properties of water and why water is wet. I often wonder how the human body works and the anatomy of it.
