Geological Timeline Reflection

Geological Timeline Reflection
Three major events in earth's history include the formation of Earth, the Cambrian explosion, and the evolution of man. The formation of Earth started Earth's history, so it's pretty important. The earth was formed about 46 billion years ago by accretion from the solar nebula. The Cambrian explosion started about 542 million years ago and ended at about 505 million years ago. This is when most complex animals appeared in fossil record as well as the structural plan of many animals today. The Cambrian explosion led to the development of predation. Towards the end of this period, some animals had temporarily gone onto land, plants soon following. The evolution of man drastically changed the face of this planet. At first, we weren't so bad, but then, we became smarter and smarter, yet more ignorant of the planet and what we're doing to it. Many species have gone extinct because of man and we have yet to see what destruction we can do on Earth.
The amount of time that the Earth has been around really shocked me. I knew we weren't a very important, much less, long period on Earth, but I didn't realize that we really don't matter so much, we just like to think we do. If earth's history was put on a timeline of one year, the cambrian explosion would be one November 17. On December 31 at 11:02 pm, the first oldest human anscestor is born. So we've been "existing" for less that an hour on earth's scale. We haven't been here for long at all.
I think we've made a huge impact on Earth even with the very short amount of time we've had. I think it's scary and impressive at the same time. I'm impressed that one species could kill themselves, others, and the earth so quickly and effeciantly. I'm afraid of what that's going to mean for the Earth. I don't know if we're going to harm the earth so much that it isn't going to be able to recover. I'm curious as to if we're going to kill ourselves first, or take down the planet with us.
I'm curious as to what earth will look like in another 10 million years. I want to know if the earth will still be here.
